Destinations for Summer 2021- Montenegro!
Montenegro or Montenegro, as this country is commonly known, is situated in the south-west of the Balkan Peninsula and has an area of 13812 square kilometres. Montenegro is washed by the Adriatic Sea, the length of coastline is 293,5 km. There are also 14 islands in the Montenegro coastline, the length of which is 15.6 km. The magnificent sandy and fine-pebbly beaches, a total length of 54 km, are considered some of the best on the Adriatic. One of them is a thirteen-kilometre beach, located in the city of Ulcinj, on the border with Albania, is called the "European Copacabana". In the north of the country there is the beach in Becici, which back in 1936 received the gold medal at an international contest in Nice, and the title of "the best beach in Europe". In addition to the countless natural beauties, in Montenegro you can see many interesting historical and architectural monuments, located in the old towns and settlements.
Fortresses and medieval towns, monasteries and churches, unique nature reserves, balneal resorts and beaches of Montenegrin Riviera, the crystal clear lakes and rivers, kind and friendly people and understandable language.
Cities and resorts
Budva is one of the most popular Montenegrin resorts and the centre of the Riviera of the same name. It has clear waters and clean beaches, some of which are periodically awarded the Blue Flag. Fans of the resort's raucous fun will find something to do - there are plenty of bars and discos with a varied programme and a rich cocktail menu. For those who can not imagine a holiday without excursions and sightseeing, there is a historical center with museums and ancient buildings, and in the vicinity - Christian churches and picturesque islands. Tourists with children will enjoy water parks, amusement rides and a mini-zoo.
Becici and Rafailovichi are two small resort towns four kilometers from Budva center and one and a half kilometers from each other. Becici attracts tourists mainly with its developed, well-established recreational infrastructure and beautiful beach. The beach here is quite extensive, with fine pebbles. In 1935, it took Grand Prix in Paris as the most beautiful in Europe.
Kotor is a UNESCO-protected city. It is one of the most interesting cities in the eastern Adriatic. There are many monuments of Romanesque architecture and buildings from the Byzantine period.
Herceg Novi is the northernmost town on Montenegro's Adriatic coast. The city was ruled by the Spanish, French, Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman and Venetian Empires, thus ensuring a rich cultural heritage. The historical part of the town which preserved the original face of Herceg Novi deserves special interest.
Although for most people Tivat is just an airport for their flights, the city is also an excellent resort that is particularly popular with Montenegrins. Tivat is famous for Porto Montenegro, a huge marina for luxury yachts.
Cetinje is a city which is the center of historical and modern Montenegro. The places of interest are: the Cetinje Mausoleum, situated at 1660 meters altitude; the Cetinje Monastery, which contains one of the three greatest Christian relics - the relics of John the Baptist; the castles of the dynasty Petrovic, one of which has the first pool table in the Balkans.
Lake Skadar is the largest lake in the Balkans and the national park with the same name. It is home to many water birds, including the rare curly pelican, the symbol of the park.
Durmitor is a mountain and the national park of the same name. Inside the Ice Cave, situated at an altitude of 1900 m above sea level, intricately shaped ice stalactites and stalagmites have formed. Of particular interest is the highest spring in the Balkans - Savina Water, located at 2000 meters above sea level. Canyon of the river Tara is 78 km long and is located between rocks more than 1000 m high. It is the second largest canyon, after the Grand Canyon in Colorado.
Biogradska Gora is a national park. Biogradsko Lake, one of the biggest lakes of glacial origin, is situated here in the middle of century-old forests. The rainforest is home to over fifty species of trees.
